Frequently Asked Questions Under Construction

What are the primary health concerns regarding CKCS?

I tell all my puppy buyers that the primary health concern is Mitral Valve Disorder (MVD).  It is very important to verify that the breeder of interest does yearly checks on their breeding girls and boys. Those checks should be done by a board certified cardiologist.  You should also check that the pedigrees are clear from Syringomyelia (SM).  Hips, Patella’s, and eyes should also be checked in the breeders breeding girls and boys.

When do you place your puppies?

Usually 10-12 weeks but I sometimes place puppies around 6 months.

Do you ship?

No, I do not ship any of my puppies.

Do you sell females or males for breeding?

No.  All my males and females are on a spay and neuter contract.

Do you provide a health gaurentee?

Yes, I do.  I also ask that you keep in touch with me regarding the puppies development.

Why do you breed?

I breed Cavalies because I love the breed.  They are my heart and my children.  I co bred with the owner of Sheeba Cavaliers for almost 10 years.  I breed because I want to see the Cavalier move forward to the future.  I make sure that  I follow the AKC standard of the breed without sacrificing  health, temperament, or the standard.  My dogs are my family.

What are the attributes of these dogs?

The cavalier is a wonderful companion in a small package.  I often times describe similar to a golden.  They can fetch and swim and hike like a big dog but they are the best snuggle bugs.  They want to be your shadow. They are not good dogs to leave alone and they do require your attention.

Should I get a male or female?

I have both males and females that are members of my family.  I love both.   Females do tend to be a little more on high alert.  For example, if the doorbell rings, often times its the girls that bark.  The boys are usually bigger than the females and they have more coat. A lot of breeders will tell you that the girls “love you” but the boys are “in love with you.”  You can not do wrong with either.  Cavaliers are amazing companions and friends.

What are your terms and conditions?

Please only contact me if you are serious about a pet cavalier.  I do not sell any of my puppies for a breeding program.  I also ask that you research the breed and you provide me questions about the breed and my program.  I will also require detailed information about the household you will provide for one of my puppies.

Where should I look for information regarding the Cavalier?

You can look on the AKC web site as well as club member sites.  You can also go to AKC sponsored shows and talk to breeders directly.  I highly recommend that you do research before talking to any breeder.

Where do your dogs live?

They live in my house.  They are members of my family.

Are your puppies socialized?

All my puppies and dogs live in my house.  I have a large garden and a young child that helps me socialize them.  I take them on trips in the car at a very young age.  All puppies have the beginning of crate training.  I spend a lot of time with my puppies so they can integrate easily with a new family.

Do you negotiate on the price of your puppies?

No.  I work very hard to maintain my program.  I breed for myself to maintain the breed.  I only breed 1-2 litters per year, if that.  To do this, it requires yearly vet visits with board certified veterinarians, top quality food, and supplements.   I provide top quality care for my dogs and puppies.  They are in a loving dynamic environment.  All my puppies and dogs are my family members.

How long should I expect to wait for a Cavalier?

Top breeders do not breed many litters per year.  When contacting a breeder they may put you on a waitlist.  The wait can be as long as 4-12 months.

Do you require a deposit for the waitlist?

No.  I do not require a deposit, however I do ask that you stay in touch with me.  Once puppies are on the ground then I ask for a deposit.  I will always give you your deposit back if you are not interested in one of my puppies or if your timing is not right.  I look for forever homes.  The deposit is used as a placeholder on my waitlist.
